Italian Street Style: Women’s Edition Part II

Italy is full of the chicest women who bring their flawless sense of style to the streets. Here is the second glimpse into the glamour seen all around Italy–from Venice to Milan.
summer-dress-fashionIn Venice: Brighten up your neutral palette with a bold pair of orange strappy sandals.

In Florence: Break up your punk-y layers and show some skin by rocking capris or even shorts with studded motorcycle boots.

IMG_1399In Florence: Style and grace, regardless of age. I love this subtle sheer printed skirt paired with wayfarer sunnies and of course, a bold lip.

In Milan: Let your look speak volumes by letting your (Burberry) purse be the voice.

In Milan: This is one very fashionable mom! Neon high tops, leather jacket, and a graphic scarf creates and edgy and rocker-chic look.

In Venice: Dressy flats and a graphic tee paired with slouchy pants of the perfect example of ultra luxe meets ultra casual.

Which look would you wear?

Style. Study. Savvy.

Pure Jean-ius- Men’s Denim Special

Let me get straight to the point: there is more than one style of denim for men. In fact there is a plethora of options to choose from. Straight cut, boot cut, slim fit, vintage wash, etc. It can be confusing and quite frankly, a bit intimidating. Here’s what you need to know about your next potential pair of jeans.

The Cuts (the fit of the denim):

The Straight Leg: Men’s denim does not get much classic than this item. It’s simple, easy to wear, and suitable for everyday occasions. Note that it’s called a “straight fit” because there is no difference in the shape of the leg from hip to hem.

The Slim Fit:. It’s the straight fit’s edgier cousin, yet more reserved that the skinny fit. The slim fit  is suitable for all those hipsters out there writing their epic novels in a coffee shop. It gives off an effortless air of coolness. Note how the leg tapers slightly from hip to hem and fits closer to the body.

The Skinny Fit: More extreme than the slim fit, the skinny fits very close to the body and tapers into a narrow leg opening at the hem. If you just started a band, wearing the skinny fit will cement an edgy rock and roll/punk image. Look at how the fit of the leg tapers more visibly from hip to hem.

The Boot Cut: It’s the straight-leg’s blue-collar brother. Aptly named the boot cut so that it fits over boots. The leg flares ever so slightly beneath the knee so that the hem can accomodate a bulky shoe. It’s suitable for everyday workwear. Not much risk here, but the classics are always appreciated.

The Washes (the color of the denim):

Light: This faded version is most appropriate for the younger crowd.

Medium: No age limit here. Classic and easy to find. Perfect for just about every occasion.

Dark: Great option if you are going out and hitting the town hard. It’s dressier without being dressed up. Sleek and cool.

Vintage: Work hard, play harder. It’s a bit roughed up and more distress will make the wash look better.

Leggings…an excuse for pants?

The controversy never fails to roll around the same time every year, right after leggings are pulled out of hibernation in the storage closet.
Haters of leggings proclaim, “Leggings are not pants!”
(contrary to the evidence below)

I hear it all the time, and maybe in a few years I’ll feel differently, but I’m here to defend my love of leggings and I’ll tell you why:
There really isn’t much difference in thickness between your skinniest of skinny jeans and leggings, except that leggings are unarguably much more comfortable and versatile. They come in a  wide variety of colors and styles and can be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. I would wear leggings every single day during the winter months if I had my choice. My rule of thumb when wearing leggings as pants? Choose a top of a longer length. Your shirt should cover at LEAST half your cute legging-clad bum. Choosing a top that is longer and form-fitted will help avert any extra attention toward a “bare bum.”
Layers also help keep your bits discrete as they create length and draw the eye upwards instead of downwards.
I love leggings for their sheer simplicity; even when you want to wear your tiniest shift dress, you can stay warm by donning a pair of leggings and adding a cardigan and scarf. Insta-chic.
All in favor of leggings, vote YAY!
For the love off fashion,
